![]() While we are arguing it was his turn at the exit to pay there was this lady in cashier in the window this guy rolled down his window and then said something to the lady mumbling and the wnxt thing i saw parking fee reflected on the display in front was 159000 Dong. Guy told me the same thing he dont have money and parking is paid by the passenger and the fare is separate. I was like why do i have to pay the parking when we only agreed on the fare. I thought maybe this guy is a good guy so he started talking to me nicely until the exit and now it was his turn to pay for the parking and now this guy asked me to pay him 159000 Dong for parking which was ridiculous. He then bring his car from the parking and kept my luggage and in it and asked me to jump in as he will drop me himself. The guy then u turned his car dropped me back in the parking and the same guy came back who attended me first calling himself a uber driver. The guy like started forcing me to handover the envelope with the money in it to him so he can check everything and was telling me that i dont believe him and at one point he got angry cuz i was not letting him get hold of the envelope. I said no and no way i m gonna pay for the parking if he wants i will only pay for the fare. I pull out the one of the currency notes which was 200K Dong the guy said he wants to check the envelope himself and asked me to give him the envelope. At first i said no way but then i thought maybe he is just asking for few 100 dongs so i pulled out the envelope. The guy knew that that envelope contains money and he asked me to take out the envelope and he will tell me how much to give him for the parking. The guy said no as if i dont get him the reason because he saw a white color envelope in my pocket. The guy was asking me to give him 1.5 and i asked him back if he want 1500 or 15000 or 150K Dong. I told him i agreed to py the fare which is 81K not the parking which was more then the fare. So i sat in the other guys car and while exiting the parking the guy asked me to pay him 150K dong for the parking as he dont have money. Once i agreed he asked one of the other guys standing there to take me in his car. So the grabs that i booked earlier were for 70K Dong but were cancelled so therefore i just agreed with this guy in the parking who showed me his phone that he is a uber driver and will charge 81K Dong. Please be reminded that if you are taking uber or grab from the airport the price should not be more then 70K-100K Dong. I agreed to pay cuz it was cheap as compare to normal taxis at the airport. I told him the place where i m staying which was in District 1 so he asked me for 81K as per what the Uber app was asking. A guys walk towards me and asked me where do i want to go. I was travelling Solo so i started walking towards the exit with my luggage and while passing by the car park there were lot of people standing there and calling out grab grab/ uber. So i thought maybe they are not allowed to enter the airport vicinity i then decided to get one from outside as you have to walk for like 5-7 mins to exit the airport. Booked Uber twice and also the same was cancelled. I booked a Grab thrice but it was cancelled by the driver after waiting for sometime. We took the shuttle bus from the airport which was 40,000VND and dropped us off at the hotel door.So i would like to share my experience when i was at the airport in HCMC. Apparently it was early and he wanted a beer - exactly the hassle I wanted to avoid! So yknow, swings and roundabouts, it's not perfect but I'd probably give it a go again. Got in a Vinasun taxi instead and had an argument with the driver at our destination because he refused to give me my change despite the fact I'd already rounded the amount up and told him he could keen the extra, and he'd taken a detour on a longer route to drop some cash off. He eventually cancelled it when I didn't. Mixed opinions about Uber in Vietnam! Used it 3 times in HCMC - first time was great, second the guy took the long way round but we got there and the price was fine, 3rd I pre-scheduled to get us to the train station at 6am - the guy called and said he was too far away (7 minutes according to the app!) and refused to come so we needed to cancel it, he then sent a text saying the same when I refused to cancel it - it seems this is a fairly common deal in SEA, the Uber driver tries to get you to cancel so you get charged and not them. ![]() Works great in Thailand, even the hotel in Chiang Mai told us to get an Uber rather than ordering a taxi to the airport. Hassle with taxi drivers drives me nuts and I'd rather take away the stress. We've used it a few times across Asia with differing results. We use Uber everywhere in the U.K because it's so much cheaper taxi's and budget wins sometimes.
